Artist Blog 1: SteveDraeger

Steve Draeger is an unusual contemporary artist. He created his company Draeger Unusual Art in 1990 and has expand his art into paintings, three dimensional wall sculptures, furniture, stained glass, and interior designing. Most of Draeger's art is mainly non representational. He wants a pop cultural feel to his art work and believes that the non representational art really suits the culture. This picture below is of a wall sculpture created by Drager labeled Discombobulated. He is a very colorful artist and uses color through out all his work. In this particular sculputre he uses more geometric lines, which is not the case in all of his art works. The artist really enjoys designs and color, and I feel like a theme he is trying to reach is modern artwork. He wants to create a design more then anything. I personally like this pice because of the color and how well the shapes fit together.

Another pice of work that I find interesting is the Pretzelogic II. This sculpture has more organic lines then geometric shapes. These colors really interest me, they give me a fun excited feeling. What I see and can assume from the title of the pice is that it is of a yoga class. I know that seams weird but that is what I see and maybe what the artist was going for. This pice is 48" X 48" and made out of wood, canvas, and acrylic.
A third pice from Draeger is titled All-You-Can-Eat. This sculpture seams to me more like an object. The demotion and the way the sculpture moves was a goal for the artist which turned this pice into his favorite. This pice does not repeat unlike Pretzelogic II. All You Can Eat is 69" X 32" and made out of wood, canvas, aluminum and transparent, tinted urethane.
