Artist Blog 4: Dalton Ghetti

Normally artists use a pencil to create their art work, but Dalton Ghetti turned the table and made the pencil the piece of art. Some how Ghetti crafts tiny figures in to the led of a pencil and creates an amazing creation. His medium is a single pencil. Ghetti wanted to challenge himself to sculpt as small as possible. To make these tiny sculptures Ghetti uses a sewing needle, a razor, and a sculpting knife. All of his work is subtractive, he scraps away the graphite to create the sculptures.

Dalton Ghetti does not really name his pieces, he names them from what they look like. I like the combined hearts because of the hearts and its symbolism of love. I like how the hearts are combined just like love is, hearts would be attached like this if they could be. I also find it interesting how he constructed this piece. This is one pencil and the artist made the hearts connecting and hollowed out hearts. The size of the art work is mind boggling as well. How does this man create such tiny sculptures. Smaller the art the hard the piece is by far. The tiny hammer is crazy because it is really tiny! All of Ghetti's works are very detailed and defined. He puts a lot of work into his pieces. The time it takes to make one pencil sculpture is about several months. The longest pice of art he worked on took him two and a half years to complete.
