Artist Blog 7: Banksy

Possibly one of my favorit artists is Banksy, because of his choice of art and his reasoning behind it. I also like that he is a graffiti artist that paints around the world. Banksy's work is targeted toward politics, culture, and ethics. His art work is anti war, anti establishment, and pro freedom. Graffiti is vandalism in many citys, but Banksy's art would not be the same if it was painted on a private wall in a museum. His art is directed to the question right and wrong, art and vandalism.

This piece shows the conflict with homosexuality. To police officers making out on the side of the street. This is a huge concern in society today, and Banksy creates the law going against what society thinks and setting the example. This painting is hard for me to explain, but I understand what Banksy is trying to portray in this piece.

This portret of the Mona Lisa with a rocket launcher cracks me up. Mona Lisa is known for her undesirable facial emotion. Once placing a rocket launcher in her hands her expression turns into a smirk for distraction. Peaceful Mona has suddenly become hostile towards all of the wrong in the world, she does not want war any more, so she is going to take it out.
