Blog Post 8: Wim Delvoye

Pimp my ride check out this artist, Wim Delvoye carves the outside of tires into fashionable designs. At first Delvoye's company was trying to make money but the tire carving turned out to be a artistic hobby he thought he would never have. The portfolio he has is incredible, I would have never thought of an idea like this. Attention to detail is a huge part that makes these tires look great.

This tire has flowers carved into, with organic lines and geometric circles. Who needs sick rims when you have beautiful tires? I personally like this tire the best because of the flowers and the circles around them. It makes the tire seem more feminine, when cars are more of a guys toy then a ladies. The repetition of circles is what really catches my eye on this piece.

Most of the tires carved have fancy doily like designs. Lacy Victorian style designs like the picture below are what a lot of Delvoye's tires look like. This kind of art intrestes me because it is a grungy material that gets dirty and goes through all weather. Delvoye is feminizing the dirty object.
